Angela Chao is a camera assistant in the Toronto film industry for over ten years. In the past two years she suffered three concussions and it has changed her life.
She discovered her inner artist and expresses her emotions through paint strokes on a canvas as mental cries for help. She has created over 300 pieces as a form of therapy and communication since she started painting. In the past year, she has garnered several awards and accolades for her works of art, and her work has been featured in many publications and countless blog postings.
Her current aspiration is to spread awareness to others about concussions. While she still faces many challenges, now more than ever, she is determined to keep painting, along with continuing to overcome mental and emotional highs and lows and adjust to her new life, post-concussion.
Art is her therapy.
Angela is a long-time supporter of the Pinkstix brand and after learning about her experience we began an exciting collaboration. Since we were floored by her amazing artwork and knowing each piece is unique and comes from her heart, we asked if she would be interested in taking her usual 'canvas' to another level - painting on our vegan leather purses. She was thrilled with this idea and it was not long before a new adventure began for us: the Pinkstix x Mindless Doodles collab.
We are so excited to present this Limited Edition collection of hand-painted purses that she worked so hard on. Each one adorned with unique brush strokes and explodes in vibrant colors. According to Angela, her mind goes through phases when she creates new art. When she feels a certain color theme or painting technique she could paint several pieces in that group, but once the thought is gone, it's gone forever and she does not recreate those looks. The "Under The Sea" paintings and purses in our collection, for example, would not be created again because her constantly changing feelings now has her exploring new styles. Each piece is truly a unique view into her world, and one of a kind.
Pinkstix believes Angela's story is an empowering one. Having the courage to speak truthfully about her hardships and sharing her art with the world, Angela reminds us that what brings us all together is simply a will to listen, understand, and embrace.
